"proving that political drama does have a place in the 21st century" - The List

nabokov is a new writing theatre company dedicated to commissioning, developing and producing backlash theatre - new work that offers an antagonistic response to contemporary agendas, trends and events.

Since 2001, we have produced critically acclaimed productions in London, Edinburgh and on tour including KITCHEN, BEDTIME FOR BASTARDS, CAMARILLA and NIKOLINA. Our World Premiere production of ARTEFACTS by Mike Bartlett opened at the Bush Theatre in London in February 2008 before touring nationally and transferring to New York. Our World Premiere production of TERRE HAUTE by Edmund White premiered at The Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh, in August 2006 prior to a National Tour and West End run at Trafalgar Studios in 2007.

We aim to develop new work through events, workshops, readings and literary programmes. Our monthly development forum, SHORTS, ran for five years in Sheffield, Manchester, Liverpool and London, offering cross-disciplinary artists the chance to test out new work in front of an audience. Our PRESENT : TENSE events challenge playwrights to write plays in response to the most important story on the news agenda in just one week.

In May 2008 we launched our brand new multi-arts event the NABOKOV ARTS CLUB at Village Underground, a 600 capacity converted Victorian warehouse in Shoreditch. The Arts Club features plays, performance poetry, films, comedy, live music and DJs from 8pm to 2am.

Alongside its own events and productions, nabokov curates, produces and hosts work at festivals and events including THE LATITUDE FESTIVAL and THE INNOCENT VILLAGE FETE.
